"I get a lot of personal satisfaction from making a piano sound its best" GR Horst who discovered his knack and enjoyment of tuning at age 12.  In 1982 his passion became a business after completing of a course of study and hands-on training in tuning and reconditioning. His service area now includes SE Pennsylvania including the counties of Berks, Chester, Lancaster, Lebanon, Dauphin, Lehigh and York.

Always Learning

GR Horst was among more than 600 attendees, including piano technicians, manufacturers and suppliers from around the world, who attended the 61st annual Piano Technicians Guild Convention and Technical Institute in July of 2018. Education and training were a focus of the four-day event that covered all aspects of piano service.

"Keeping current on related technology, tools, methods, and repair technique takes a focused effort" according to GR. He also values information sharing with other technicians where there is a continuous flow of new ideas, methods, tools shared from decades of experience. This all points to a focus on benefits for our customers who expect skilled professional service from their local piano technician.

Just listen and compare ...

"At one time, computer technologies seemed to place the future of the acoustic piano in question. The portability and flexibility are attractive features on an electronic instrument" notes GR who was once employed by a manufacturer of both acoustic and electronic keyboards.  "However at a music conference as I happened to walk by an acoustic grand piano being played, the beauty and authenticity of the sound was overwhelming and caught me by surprise. It was a stark reminder that there is nothing like the real acoustic piano."

"I also learned that the life expectancy of an electronic instrument is significantly shorter than that of an acoustic piano. It's not unusual to encounter acoustic pianos that are well over 50 and even 100 years old that are still in decent condition.  Yes, I am bias toward the acoustic version of the piano. However, with the authentic sound, infinite variability and longevity of the acoustic piano, I think my bias is justified."
